Movies I've liked that aren't on your list (more-or-less in order of preference):

* Shelter
* Were the World Mine
* Broken Hearts Club
* In & Out
* Connie and Carla
* Holding Trevor
* Latter Days
* Poster Boy
* Prayers for Bobby
* The Object of My Affection
* To Wong Foo- Thanks For Everything Julie Newmarr

Ones that have been recommended (but that I haven't seen yet):

* Angels in America
* Big Eden
* C.R.A.Z.Y.
* Conrad Boys
* For the Bible Tells Me So
* Save Me

There are also a few that I want to see, based on a description of the story, but that I haven't had personally recommended--so I'll refrain from promoting them until I have a more trustworthy opinion of them. :)

I'll have to check out a few of the ones on your list that I haven't seen yet!

C.R.A.Z.Y. is not only my favorite gay movie, but one of my favorite movies of all time. I highly recommend it.

What about

In-and-Out--with Kevin Kline

That is one of my favorite ones!

Scott: I've ordered Shelter on Netflix. Thanks.

Captain Midnight and Public Loneliness: C.R.A.Z.Y. and In-and-Out are favorites of mine, too. Just forgot to include it on my list. Thanks.

Thought of another movie - Bent. Sounded interesting when it came out. Anybody see it?

I watched most of Bent on netflix. It was pretty interesting, but failed to captivate me into watching the rest of it. You might have better luck though.

Two more good gay movies:

Strawberry and Chocolate (Fresa y Chocolate)

Gods and Monsters - I actually was impressed with Brendan Fraser's acting in this movie.

I don't know why I didn't mention this before but I recommend Latter-Days, the quintessential story of a gay LDS missionary, has language and some nudity but it is a powerful story.

I think you would love Big Eden. It's positive, quirky and beautifully shot.

Saw "Victim" on someone's list so ordered that one on Netflix, too.

"Victim" is a U.K. film made in 1961 that was banned in the U.S.

It's probably dated but it will be interesting to see how this subject was addressed back then.

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions.

Philip

Hmm, Scott pretty much covered our list. What about Philadelphia with Tom Hanks? It has been a very long time since I have seen that one.

TV Series:
Will & Grace
Ugly Betty

Others that I haven't seen, but have been recommended (that Scott missed)

Bird Cage (?)
Kinky boots

I'm sure there are more that we are missing.

Sarah,

Thanks. Saw Kinky Boots and both La Cage Aux Folles (Birdcage).

Kinky Boots was OK. Enjoyed the French version of Birdcage but didn't like the American version the first time around. Liked it the second time around though. I guess the first time I expected too much.

Viewed Bent and Coming Out on Netflix this weekend. I couldn't watch all of Bent. The violence got to me. Coming Out, a German film made in 1978, was better than most and it's surprising how much further ahead the Germans are to Americans in dealing with this subject.

I wish I could see Tea and Sympathy again.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Philip

My favorite movie that falls into this category is "A love to hide" (Un amour a taire). I found it absolutely beautiful and heart string pulling.

A second (or third) for "Shelter" and "Latter days".

I recently saw "Mulligans". It is tough for those of us in MOMs, and not great cinema, but made me think.

"Mulligans" could have been so much better.

The storyline was too simplistic and unrealistic. The married man just seemed to stumble onto his gayness right before plunging into his sexuality. Twenty odd years of marriage and not a clue in all that time? Then no introspection? No resisting temptation? Seems a little farfetched.

It was like some outsider's idea of what a MOM should be.

Philip
